Speedscale + k6 tutorial overview Guide
Blog post from Speedscale
Load testing evaluates how reliably an application and its infrastructure perform under expected or elevated traffic, and the tutorial explains how Speedscale and k6 can be combined to use production-derived traffic in locally run performance tests. Speedscale integrates with Kubernetes through an Operator to capture and replay real application traffic, while the open-source k6 tool runs JavaScript-based load tests from a local machine and supports scenarios such as stress, smoke, browser, and protocol-level testing. The workflow uses Minikube and a demo Kubernetes application, installs and configures the Speedscale Operator, instruments services with a sidecar to capture traffic, saves the captured activity as a snapshot, and exports that snapshot into a k6 script. Users then forward a Kubernetes service port to their local machine, update the generated script’s target hostname, and execute it with k6 to obtain metrics including request duration, failures, throughput, iterations, and network use. The tutorial also notes that k6 Cloud can optionally host and manage exported tests with configurable virtual users and real-time performance insights.
