Speakeasy Functions: A TypeScript-native framework for building agent tools
Blog post from Speakeasy
Speakeasy Functions is a TypeScript-native framework for creating and deploying AI agent tools as production-ready Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers through Speakeasy’s AI Control Plane. It allows developers to define tools with a name, description, Zod-based input schema, and asynchronous execution logic, avoiding direct management of MCP protocol details, OpenAPI specifications, or infrastructure. The framework supports tools that combine API calls, database queries, and business logic into single agent operations, which can reduce the complexity and cumulative failure risk of multi-step agent workflows. Functions can be reused across MCP servers, deployed to Speakeasy’s managed serverless environment, and connected with MCP-compatible clients such as Claude Desktop and Cursor. Available on all pricing tiers, including free, the framework includes local development and deployment commands, while planned additions include ChatGPT App support and staging capabilities for previewing tool changes before production release.
