Summary

PHP released versions 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36, and 8.2.35 to address two critical unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerabilities, CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, collectively called php2shell and rated CVSS 9.2. The memory-safety flaws can be triggered through crafted multipart POST requests and may be reachable in mod_php before application code executes, making patching every exposed PHP runtime essential regardless of application security. Organizations are urged to identify PHP installations across Dockerfiles, base images, operating-system package installs, Kubernetes and Helm configurations, CI workflows, Composer projects, and forgotten internal tools, then update version pins, rebuild images, restart workers, and verify that old binaries are no longer running. Internet-facing vulnerable systems should be treated as potentially compromised, with priority given to patching exposed mod_php instances, rotating credentials accessible to web workers, preserving evidence, investigating for compromise, and rebuilding affected services. Because PHP 8.1 and earlier are unsupported and will not receive fixes, affected hosts should be isolated from the public internet or migrated to supported versions. The text promotes Deep Search for discovering runtime ownership and locations across repositories, and Agentic Batch Changes for coordinating large-scale version updates and pull requests.
