When Agents Outpace Organizations | AI Code Verification
Blog post from Sonar
Episode 5 of The Next Commit features Fin principal engineer Kesha Mykhailov discussing how AI coding agents accelerate implementation but shift the primary constraint to planning, review, verification, and organizational learning. At Fin, rapid AI-generated changes reduced technical planning and forced reviewers to reconstruct intent from large diffs, prompting the company to encourage smaller pull requests through size-based approval rules and layered checks for security, logic, problem quality, and sensitive changes. During a migration from Ember.js to React, Fin consolidated expert guidance into a shared “skill” used by both coding and review agents, reducing drift between generation standards and verification criteria while retaining independent review. Fin also learned that evaluating its review agent, Shrek, solely on recall allowed a cheaper model with many false positives to pass testing, creating delays and weakening developer trust. The company now evaluates feedback from live pull requests through explicit reactions, adopted suggestions, and merges that override active flags, emphasizing that automated verification must minimize noise as well as catch genuine defects.
