The SonarQube Remediation Agent Using Claude Opus 5.5
Blog post from Sonar
SonarQube reports that upgrading its Remediation Agent’s Anthropic model to Claude Opus 5.5 improved all tracked quality outcomes while reducing average cost per fix by about 58%. The agent autonomously generates code fixes for SonarQube issues, validates them in a sandbox through renewed analysis, retries failed attempts, and creates pull requests only when a fix clears checks; customers supply their own OpenAI or Anthropic API keys and pay inference costs directly. Compared with Opus 5, Opus 5.5 increased fully resolved issues by 11.9% and reviewer-ready changes by 15.8%, while functional test pass rates remained essentially unchanged, indicating that gains did not come at the expense of existing behavior. Average wall-clock time per issue rose 4%, a tradeoff Sonar considers minor for typical backlog remediation but potentially relevant for latency-sensitive workflows. Sonar argues that lower costs and higher completion rates make broader backlog cleanup more practical, while noting that benchmark results should ultimately be validated on each organization’s own codebase and quality profile.
