Socure Solution Insights: Pushing the Boundaries of Document Verification with Generative AI
Blog post from Socure
Socure reports that its DocV 3.0 platform uses a generative AI barcode enhancement model to reconstruct damaged or low-quality PDF417 barcodes on U.S. and Canadian identity documents, raising barcode readability from 68% to 89%, reducing image-validation resubmissions from 11% to 3%, and delivering conclusive responses in about two seconds. Because barcodes contain machine-readable identity data such as names and dates of birth with built-in error correction, they can provide a more reliable alternative or complement to OCR, which may misinterpret text under glare, poor lighting, blur, or other real-world image conditions. The model was trained using synthetic personal data encoded into readable barcodes that were artificially degraded through effects such as downsampling, blur, shadows, wear, and background changes, enabling it to learn to generate cleaner, higher-resolution versions for decoding.
