Summary

Socure announced its acquisition of San Francisco-based ID verification startup Berbix in an approximately $70 million cash-and-stock deal, its first acquisition, and launched Predictive Document Verification (DocV) 3.0 following the completed technology integration. Berbix contributes document-forensics capabilities designed to identify altered, spoofed, and AI-generated IDs, as well as coverage for passports and local identity documents in 180 countries, while Socure combines these tools with AI-guided image capture and machine-learning fraud models informed by hundreds of data sources and a large identity-risk graph. Socure claims DocV 3.0 can make automated identity decisions in under four seconds and improves automated decisioning, approval of legitimate users, and fraudulent-document detection compared with industry benchmarks. The company says the product can support onboarding, age verification, transaction step-ups, healthcare, mobility, financial services, and public-sector identity workflows, while enabling customers’ international expansion. Berbix co-founder Eric Levine will lead the combined document-verification team as Socure seeks to incorporate the technology into its broader ID+ identity and fraud-prevention platform.
