How to Improve Life Insurance Onboarding with Smarter Identity Verification
Blog post from Socure
Legacy KYC and watchlist-screening systems often force life insurers to choose between strict compliance controls that generate large manual-review backlogs and faster onboarding that may increase risk. The passage argues that many reviews result not from genuinely risky applicants but from legacy tools’ inability to resolve identities using limited application data. Socure proposes placing its identity-resolution platform earlier in underwriting, combining consent-based Social Security verification, document checks, fraud screening, and watchlist screening designed to reduce false positives so that only genuinely uncertain cases reach human reviewers. In a proof-of-concept study involving a large life insurer, Socure estimated that 83.99% of 12,000 applications previously sent for manual review could have been passively approved. It contends that more precise verification can improve both compliance consistency and applicant conversion, and invites insurers to assess potential approval and review-reduction impacts using their own historical application data.
