Socket Joins New OpenJS Program to Fund Node.js Security Work
Blog post from Socket
Socket has joined the OpenJS Foundation’s Security Stewardship Program as an inaugural partner, contributing to a pooled funding model for Node.js vulnerability research, bug bounties, maintainer triage, patching, backporting, and security releases. The initiative responds to a growing volume of AI-assisted vulnerability reports, many of which are invalid or duplicative but still require maintainer review, while industry bug bounty funding has declined or been restructured at projects including curl, GitHub, and Node.js. Node.js paused its bounty program in April 2026 after external funding ended, despite a sharp increase in HackerOne submissions, including a 4.6-fold monthly rise in February. The program will also support disclosure and CVE coordination through the OpenJS Foundation, with the broader aim of creating sustainable funding for both vulnerability discovery and remediation across JavaScript open-source infrastructure.
