The Socket Security extension for Visual Studio Code (VSCode) has expanded its support to include Python, allowing developers to automatically identify and address security issues in their Python dependencies. This enhancement covers projects utilizing files like `Pipfile`, `pyproject.toml`, `requirements.txt`, and `setup.py`, providing diagnostic warnings for problematic package imports directly in the VSCode "Problems" tab and the editor. The extension integrates with VSCode's official Python extension, supporting all current and future Python 3 versions, as well as the legacy Python 2.7.18. This update aligns Python support with that provided for JavaScript and TypeScript, ensuring continuous security improvements and ease of use for developers. Looking ahead, Socket plans to introduce synchronization features with organization settings and compatibility with web-based VSCode instances such as github.dev.
