License changes for Snowplow Open Source
Blog post from Snowplow
Snowplow is transitioning most of its open source code from the Apache 2.0 license to the Snowplow Community License to ensure continued investment in its open source community while protecting its commercial interests. This change, excluding specific SDKs and trackers that will remain under the Apache 2.0 license, aims to prevent businesses from using Snowplow's code to create competing products without contributing back to the community. The Snowplow Community License allows access and modification of the source code but restricts the creation of competing offerings. This transition is anticipated to have minimal impact on most open source users, as customers using BDP Enterprise or BDP Cloud will remain unaffected under commercial license terms. The new license applies from the next major version release of each pipeline component, including some already released elements like Snowflake Loader 5.7.0 with Azure support.
