Summary

SingleStore’s Observability Agent is a read-only, permission-aware assistant that investigates workspace health questions in natural language by connecting monitoring signals such as cluster resources, workload history, pipeline activity, errors, and operational events. It can begin from a dashboard chart or a specified cluster and time window, explain its evidence, and recommend next steps without altering data, configuration, infrastructure, or workloads. In a production memory-exhaustion incident, the agent determined that query execution memory, rather than table memory, rose sharply; ranked workloads by sustained memory use; and identified two failing variants of a reporting query that accounted for most attributed memory and were likely worsening the issue through repeated retries. It also detected a separate query spilling substantial data to disk, providing a prioritized and verifiable set of findings in roughly two minutes compared with the one to three hours typically needed for a manual investigation across several tools. The system relies on engineering playbooks to guide repeatable diagnostic sequences while retaining previous evidence as users refine questions, and it is being rolled out to select customers through the SingleStore portal and observability dashboards, with future support-agent and secure MCP-client access planned.
