Sigma's Exports team developed an innovative feature called "report bursting," which allows users to distribute personalized reports to multiple recipients based on predefined criteria, enhancing the previous complex process that required separate schedules and Row-Level Security. The development involved close collaboration between design and export teams, as well as consultations with potential users to ensure an intuitive and flexible solution. The feature's core functionality enables report generation based on unique values and mapping to recipients, overcoming technical challenges like data retrieval and access control. Upon release, the report bursting feature, initially supporting email destinations, received enthusiastic user adoption and requests for expanded capabilities, including support for Slack and multiple destinations. The team attributes their success to user-focused development, cross-team collaboration, and a willingness to iterate and improve based on customer feedback. As a result, they plan to enhance the feature's scalability and performance, driven by continued user demand and insights gained throughout the development process.
