Announcing Metrics in Sigma
Blog post from Sigma
Sigma Computing has introduced a new feature to its business intelligence platform: metrics, which allow users to encapsulate aggregate calculations like profit margin or churn rate into reusable fields in their spreadsheets. This feature, now in Beta, is a significant addition to Sigma's interface, which is built on live cloud-scale data and has been widely adopted by companies such as DoorDash, US Foods, and Blackstone. Unlike traditional BI tools, Sigma did not initially require predefined metrics, focusing instead on a spreadsheet interface that appealed to over a billion spreadsheet users globally. The introduction of metrics aims to make data analysis more consistent and scalable, as metrics can be easily created using formulas and updated globally across workbooks without breaking content. This development allows subject matter experts to define metrics, enhancing the platform's usability and enabling analysts to trust and efficiently use shared business logic.
