I turned error messages into a sales machine (by accident)
Blog post from Sentry
Dan Mindru, a frontend developer and designer, shares his experience of turning error messages into a sales advantage while developing PageAI, a website builder that utilizes AI to plan, design, and code websites. Despite the initial challenges with AI-generated errors, Mindru's team launched the product, focusing on user feedback through ratings and feedback widgets to identify and address issues. A pivotal change was adding a "Trying to autofix" spinner, which not only retained user engagement but also increased trust and communication, transforming error notifications into sales leads. This approach emphasized rapid customer support and understanding user needs, ultimately leading to increased user satisfaction and product purchases. Mindru concludes that while perfection isn't necessary, effective error management and user interaction can enhance product development and customer relations.
