Today marks nine years since the very first commit to Sentry, originally called django-db-log, which aimed to solve the problem of debug Django projects by logging exceptions to a database and exposing aggregate views. Over time, Sentry expanded its scope to collect stack locals and richer context, eventually becoming a cross-platform error monitoring solution for Python, Ruby, and JavaScript. The company spun out its cloud service, sentry.io, and began investing in the project, growing into a massive technology company with large organizations like Stripe and Uber using it behind their firewall. Sentry has continued to grow and saturate the market, with many technology companies relying on it, and now boasts 30 full-time employees across three locations.
