Making testing work better for AI driven development
Blog post from Semaphore
Semaphore’s product update outlines efforts to make automated testing more informative and effective for developers and AI coding agents. Planned improvements include collecting richer framework-specific test output from tools such as xUnit and RSpec, replacing generic report conversions that can omit failure details; developing weighted, time-sensitive flaky-test scores based on signals such as reruns and inconsistent results; and researching code-graph-based test selection to run tests most relevant to a change. The company is also moving large test reports toward JSON Lines format to enable faster independent processing of results. Internally, Semaphore engineers use code maps to help AI agents navigate its multi-service, multilingual codebase with less prompting, lower token use, and fewer unsupported assumptions, beginning with simple Markdown documentation and expanding as needed.
