Why Teams Are Ditching DynamoDB

Several teams are transitioning from Amazon DynamoDB to ScyllaDB due to various operational challenges and cost concerns as they scale. Yieldmo, an online advertising platform, found DynamoDB increasingly expensive and geographically restrictive, prompting them to switch to ScyllaDB for its cost-effectiveness, multi-cloud flexibility, and minimal code changes required for migration. Similarly, Digital Turbine, a major player in mobile ad tech, moved to ScyllaDB to address performance issues and achieve significant cost savings, while standardizing on Google Cloud Platform. A large media streaming service's User State and Customizations team also opted for ScyllaDB, driven by high write throughput, low latency needs, and cost-efficiency, despite DynamoDB meeting their technical requirements. These teams highlighted ScyllaDB's compatibility, operational simplicity, and substantial cost reductions as critical benefits of their migration.
