Announcing ScyllaDB 2025.1, Our First Source-Available Release
Blog post from ScyllaDB
ScyllaDB 2025.1, the first release under a Source-Available License, combines improvements from previous Enterprise and Open Source versions into a unified code base, introducing new features such as Tablets enabled by default and supporting mixed clusters with varying core counts. This release enhances scaling speed and performance, offering features like Tablet Merge to optimize data distribution and support for zero-token nodes to assist in query coordination. ScyllaDB 2025.1 serves as the foundation for the forthcoming ScyllaDB X Cloud, providing improvements like faster scaling and increased storage utilization. Tablets, a new data distribution algorithm, improve upon the legacy vNodes approach, although some features like Materialized Views and Change Data Capture are not yet supported with Tablets. The release also includes updates like strongly consistent topology and service levels, improved network compression, and the removal of the JMX server, signaling a shift towards a more efficient native nodetool.
