Open Source Pledge 2025: Stepping up when it matters

In response to the challenges faced by open-source projects in the AI era, Sanity has made a substantial financial commitment to support the sustainability of key tools such as Tailwind CSS. Despite its widespread use, Tailwind Labs has experienced significant revenue loss due to the rise of AI tools, which has led to a drastic decrease in traffic to their documentation, a primary driver of their income. To combat this, Sanity doubled its sponsorship of Tailwind to $60,000 as part of a broader Open Source Pledge, which includes a total commitment of $146,000 for 2025 to various open-source projects crucial to their operations. This initiative reflects a growing recognition that sustainable business models are necessary for the survival of open-source projects, especially as AI changes how developers interact with software documentation. Sanity's actions highlight the importance of direct financial support from companies benefitting from these tools to ensure their continuity and development.
