How to make a recipe site that scales well

Dag Stuan, an engineer at Bekk, developed a project named Bakdel to address challenges he faced when baking at home, such as recipe scaling and navigating cluttered recipe websites. Bakdel, a playful nod to its Norwegian roots, is a platform that allows users to store recipes in an organized, ad-free format, with features like ingredient scaling and check-off lists within the instructions. Built as a Next.js app integrated with Sanity, a content operating system, it enables users to manage recipes efficiently by embedding ingredients within the instructions and dynamically adjusting quantities. Stuan leveraged technologies like Tailwind, Shadcn, and Vercel for a quick setup and deployment, resulting in a product he uses frequently. He plans further enhancements, such as more sophisticated scaling logic and unit conversion, and invites feedback and contributions from the community, with the app and its code accessible online.
