A reminder for the solo designer from Seattle Tech Week

A sole designer at SageOx reflects on how AI coding tools such as Claude Code have allowed designers to contribute directly to production code, submit pull requests, address quality issues, and enforce design systems, while also intensifying the effort of translating design thinking into engineering language. Although the author values this faster, more agentic workflow, they describe isolation from being surrounded primarily by engineers and the fatigue of operating outside their native design discipline. Attending a Seattle design-focused event provided a sense of community and reinforced the idea that design is fundamentally a problem-solving process rather than a measurable output such as merged pull requests. The experience prompted the author to balance AI-enabled speed with slower practices including sketching, user understanding, critique, and design frameworks, while seeking more opportunities for in-person connection with other designers and proposing a future SageOx design meetup.
