Summary

Disk performance can significantly affect CI/CD pipelines through throughput, IOPS, and latency, particularly during write-heavy operations such as npm installs that create large numbers of small files. To improve performance for high-IOPS tasks, tmpfs support allows tasks to use memory-backed temporary storage by setting `tmpfs: true` in the task’s agent configuration. In an example writing a 1 GB file of zeros, tmpfs reduced completion time from 3.376 seconds to 0.383 seconds, an approximately 8.8-fold improvement.
