Runta is an execution layer designed to control the actions of agents in real-time, addressing the challenge of managing software that makes decisions as it runs rather than following pre-written paths. Unlike traditional systems where software operations are predetermined, Runta provides a governance framework that monitors and regulates every action an agent takes, such as file access, network calls, and credential usage, ensuring that these actions comply with predefined policies. This approach not only allows agents to handle more significant tasks safely but also ensures that their operations are transparent and auditable, providing a detailed record of what actually occurs. By overseeing token and compute costs and managing network access to only what is essential for the task, Runta offers a way to mitigate risks associated with granting agents real-world access. The initiative is supported by $20 million in seed funding from notable investors, including Martin Casado at Andreessen Horowitz, and aims to encourage companies to entrust agents with more substantial work by resolving concerns related to control and oversight.
