Flash, now the Nix way: run the Flash CLI straight from GitHub
Blog post from RunPod
Runpod Flash now provides a first-class Nix flake that lets developers run its CLI directly from GitHub, install it into a Nix profile, or enter a reproducible development shell without cloning the repository or creating a virtual environment. Flash is a Python framework for deploying decorated functions as remote GPU workloads on Runpod, while Nix manages the local toolchain and dependencies through pinned inputs in flake.lock, eliminating the need for local CUDA drivers, GPUs, or PyTorch installations. The flake is tested in CI on x86_64 and ARM Linux, supports macOS and Linux natively with Windows available through WSL2, and is designed for NixOS and Flox users alongside the existing pip installation method. An image-captioning example demonstrates how a project can pin its local Flash and Python environment with Nix while independently declaring dependencies and a model revision for a remotely deployed RTX 4090 endpoint. The account notes that Nix locking guarantees local environment reproducibility, whereas remote worker reproducibility also requires fully pinned transitive dependencies and immutable model revisions.
