Runpod has introduced the option for clients to encrypt their persistent volumes, enhancing data security against cyber threats, malware, and potential breaches. While encrypted volumes offer increased data protection, they may also result in decreased performance and added management complexity. Clients can activate this feature during deployment by selecting the "Encrypt Volume" checkbox, and can either allow Runpod to manage encryption keys through its web platform or choose their own keys via API deployment. Runpod advises using encrypted volumes for sensitive data but suggests non-encrypted volumes for those who prioritize performance.
