What is MTTR?
Blog post from Rollbar
Mean time to resolution (MTTR) measures the average time from a production error’s appearance to its confirmed resolution, but a single average can obscure the stages responsible for delays. Breaking resolution time into detection, triage, diagnosis, and repair can reveal the primary bottleneck; in the example, diagnosis accounts for more time than all other stages combined. DORA has replaced mean time to restore with failed deployment recovery time among its delivery metrics and advises evaluating distributions and multiple measures rather than relying on one metric alone. Rollbar aims to reduce diagnosis time through integrated stack traces, repository code context, telemetry timelines, and session replays, while commit-based deployment tracking can automatically resolve items when fixes are deployed. Its Resolve feature further automates remediation by reviewing code, applying changes in an isolated environment, running tests, and opening a pull request for human review.
