What is a stack trace?
Blog post from Rollbar
A stack trace records the chain of function calls active when an error occurs, showing both the precise failure location and the path the program took to reach it. Reading order varies by language: Python places the most recent, error-raising call near the bottom above the exception message, while JavaScript and Java generally show that frame first. In the example, a TypeError occurs in `billing.py` when code attempts to multiply a `None` amount by an integer, while the preceding frame in `views.py` identifies the caller that supplied the invalid line item. Rollbar parses stack traces across languages, groups related errors by their underlying frame structure rather than message text, filters framework boilerplate, and can display file, method, and code context for each frame.
