Summary

Source maps connect minified, bundled, or transpiled production code to its original source files, allowing unreadable frontend stack traces to display meaningful filenames, line numbers, function names, and code locations. Rollbar uses uploaded source maps to deobfuscate errors and maintain reliable error grouping across code changes, matching stack-trace frame filenames with a map’s configured minified URL and SDK code version. Maps can be supplied through an API, the Rollbar CLI, or automatic download from a sourceMappingURL comment, although uploading them during deployment is recommended because automatically downloaded maps may not be available for initial errors. Source maps are applied only to errors received after upload, so earlier occurrences are not reprocessed.
