YOLO Labeling Tools
Blog post from Roboflow
Roboflow’s YOLO labeling workflow supports creating object detection datasets by uploading images, defining consistent classes, and annotating objects with bounding boxes manually, through automated models, collaboratively with a team, or via outsourced professional labeling. Using a warehouse example with forklifts, pallets, pallet trucks, and people, the guide emphasizes tightly fitting boxes, labeling every relevant object, and applying uniform rules for partially visible or similar objects. Auto Label can use foundation models such as GPT-6 Astra or Gemini to generate box annotations in bulk, but its output should be previewed and reviewed for missed objects, incorrect classes, duplicates, overlaps, and inconsistent box placement. After annotations are approved, images are split into training, validation, and test sets, saved as a versioned dataset, and exported in a compatible YOLO format or used for training directly in Roboflow. Versioning enables users to connect each model experiment to its precise annotations and iteratively improve labels and training data based on evaluation results.
