OPC UA (Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture) is a vendor-neutral, platform-independent communication standard that enables secure, structured data exchange among various industrial systems, such as PLCs, sensors, and software systems, regardless of their manufacturer. It addresses interoperability challenges in manufacturing plants with equipment from multiple vendors by replacing the older OPC Classic, which was tied to Microsoft's COM/DCOM technology, with a more versatile framework that includes built-in security features.
