MountAIn Brings Always-On Vision AI to Solar-Powered Cameras with Roboflow
Blog post from Roboflow
MountAIn has integrated its solar-powered, off-grid IBEX camera with Roboflow, allowing developers to train custom computer-vision models and deploy them to low-power microcontrollers in remote locations without grid power or network connectivity. Announced on October 21, 2026, the integration supports exporting Roboflow-trained YOLO11n, YOLOv8n, and YOLO26n models to IBEX, with RF-DETR Nano support planned. IBEX processes video locally, sends event alerts via satellite, and has been piloted in southern France since 2024 to detect wildfire smoke; it can also support applications such as infrastructure monitoring, traffic analysis, wildlife tracking, intrusion detection, and flood observation. MountAIn Core reduces model memory requirements by three times while maintaining power consumption below 100 milliwatts on Alif Semiconductor hardware, and early tests reported YOLO nano inference speeds of up to 22 frames per second. Roboflow provides the associated data workflow, including image upload, auto-labeling, dataset versioning, hosted training, and Python-based deployment to MountAIn Studio, enabling users to retrain and update models without reflashing camera firmware. MountAIn plans a Canadian fire-detection deployment and aims to deploy 1,000 IBEX units by the end of 2027.
