From VLM Prediction to Production System
Blog post from Roboflow
Vision-language models can accelerate computer vision projects by generating initial object-detection annotations from image descriptions, such as identifying thermal hot spots on solar panels, but their predictions still require human review because they may miss or misclassify targets. Building a usable inspection system also requires standardized annotations, dataset management, model training, deployment infrastructure, and continuous improvement from real-world results. Roboflow is presented as a managed platform that combines VLM-assisted labeling, annotation review, GPU-based training with architectures such as RF-DETR, cloud or edge deployment, and active-learning workflows that collect uncertain or incorrect predictions for later correction and retraining. By versioning datasets and evaluating updated models against separate test sets, teams can trace the data used for each model and improve detection performance while monitoring false alarms.
