Retool launches the first centralized agent harness
Blog post from Retool
Retool has announced early access to a centralized enterprise agent harness designed to give employees AI agents through Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Google Chat while maintaining centralized control over models, tools, data, permissions, and costs. Unlike local coding agents that can safely operate in development sandboxes, the platform places agents on shared company infrastructure, including optional on-premises VPC deployments, virtualized filesystems, memory, scheduled jobs, and governed connections to business systems. Tool calls pass through a policy-enforcing gateway that can inspect actions and arguments before execution, with agents restricted from employee laptops, browser automation, and desktop control. Agents receive separate service-account identities and audit records, enabling organizations to distinguish employee activity from delegated agent actions and track inputs, outputs, model use, and token spending. Centralized, permissioned storage allows successful skills, files, and code to be shared across teams, while users can delegate approved access and turn recurring natural-language requests into scheduled automations. Retool says it has used the system internally for four months and is beginning a limited rollout to its next hundred customers.
