How Voice AI Vendors and Services Partners Should Scope the First Deal
Blog post from Retell AI
Partner-led voice AI deployments should begin with a written scope that assigns a single owner to each workstream, places discovery responsibility with the services partner, and limits the first phase to one call type, entry point, system of record, and escalation path. Discovery should document call volumes, telephony setup, integrations, compliance needs, approval roles, post-launch change processes, and a measurable success metric, while vendor involvement is most useful for platform-specific risks such as contact center integrations, enterprise contracts, security requirements, or unusually high capacity needs. Built-in integrations and standard telephony arrangements can simplify delivery, whereas custom APIs and existing contact center infrastructure require additional development and coordination. Partners should separate platform usage charges, one-time implementation costs, and ongoing management fees in client pricing, confirm vendor professional-services costs before quoting, and clearly distinguish later expansion work from the initial deployment. Before issuing a quote, partners and vendors should also agree in writing on lead ownership, commercial terms, minimums for enterprise support, contract ownership, service deliverables, and escalation procedures.
