The New DMARC is Here
Blog post from Resend
DMARC has been updated with new specifications, known as "DMARCbis," now formalized as three separate standards: RFC 9989, RFC 9990, and RFC 9991, to reflect its central role in email authentication. The updates introduce significant changes, including a new DNS Tree Walk for determining organizational domains, replacing the Public Suffix List, and modifications to DMARC tags such as the removal of the pct tag and the introduction of the np and psd tags. These changes aim to simplify policy enforcement and enhance protection against spoofing by allowing domain owners more control over their domain boundaries and policies for non-existent subdomains. Reporting has also been split into its own standards, with aggregate reports now consistently provided in XML format and sent on the receiver's schedule. While most users will not need to change their existing configurations immediately, they can benefit from adopting new features to improve email security and policy enforcement.
