After six months of research and development, significant progress has been made on Performance Analysis, a tool designed to identify performance regressions in web development before they reach production. Traditional methods of optimizing core web vitals often fall short, as they fail to predict how new changes might regress these metrics. Performance Analysis tackles this issue by replaying runtime execution to build a directed acyclic graph (DAG) of all events on a page, such as function calls, network events, and React events, which helps accurately identify regressions that will impact core web vitals without producing false positives or negatives. This innovative approach has already demonstrated its effectiveness by catching a potential 300ms delay caused by a blocking API call. The tool is still being actively developed, and interested parties are invited to join a waitlist or become design partners to influence its evolution.
