render.yaml for coding agents: let your agent write and validate Blueprints
Blog post from Render
Render Blueprints provide a reviewable, reproducible way for coding agents to define infrastructure in a render.yaml file before creating resources, complementing the Render MCP server where it lacks support for certain service types and configuration options. The recommended workflow has an agent use the render-blueprints skill to draft a Blueprint, consult current specifications and plan information, validate it repeatedly with the Render CLI, correct errors, and open a pull request only after validation succeeds. A Blueprint can connect web services, workflows, cron jobs, Key Value stores, and Postgres databases through named references while keeping secrets out of source control through resource references, sync: false variables, or generated values. After review and application, top-level preview settings can automatically create per-PR environments, although Workflows are excluded from these previews and sync: false secrets are not copied automatically. The guidance also highlights common configuration errors, including putting databases or Key Value resources in the wrong sections, omitting cron schedules, hardcoding secrets, breaking references through renames, changing immutable fields, duplicating resources, and attempting to manage the same resource through multiple Blueprints.
