Initially relying on Apache Kafka and ZooKeeper for its queue management, SmartLunch faced challenges with the complexity and maintenance of this system. The company switched to Redpanda, a faster and API-compatible solution, allowing seamless integration without altering existing code. This transition simplified their architecture, reduced operational burdens, and allowed the team to focus on strategic goals like international expansion, thereby enhancing both cost-effectiveness for employers and affordability for employees.
