DRM with Castlabs and WebRTC

Digital rights management (DRM) is crucial for protecting video content from piracy, and Red5 Pro has partnered with Castlabs to offer a DRM solution that maintains real-time streaming capabilities using WebRTC. Unlike older streaming protocols, WebRTC incorporates encryption from its design, but it lacks protection once content reaches the end user's device, making it susceptible to unauthorized recording tools like youtube-dl. Castlabs addresses this issue by employing industry-standard DRM schemes such as Widevine, PlayReady, and FairPlay to encrypt WebRTC streams, ensuring they remain secure and unwatchable without the appropriate decryption key and JavaScript module. This integration allows content owners to deliver low-latency streams, especially in piracy-sensitive industries like sports betting and live entertainment, without altering existing streaming infrastructure. Red5 Pro integrates Castlabs DRM both on the player side, via its WebRTC player, and on the server side, using Castlabs encryptor in the Cauldron media engine, thus providing content owners with the same DRM options they had with traditional streaming protocols.
