Summary

ReadMe enables API providers to generate Model Context Protocol servers directly from existing API documentation, allowing AI tools such as Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, and VS Code to search relevant endpoints, interpret documentation, and optionally execute API requests. The feature is activated in the ReadMe AI panel, produces configurable MCP URLs and connection instructions, and uses search rather than loading an entire API specification to avoid context limits. Administrators can choose read-only or execution access, enable or disable individual routes, use header-based authentication, track usage through My Developers, and create custom tools for workflows, templates, runbooks, reference information, onboarding, and conflict-resolution rules. Demonstrations showed agents using documented APIs to generate reports, create users, and perform multi-step task reassignment, while ReadMe’s own MCP server can automate documentation updates. The service currently proxies only publicly accessible APIs, provides site-wide rather than user-specific MCP content exposure, and distinguishes MCP from Ask AI, which operates within documentation sites, and LLMs.txt, which supports external AI crawler discovery.
