QuestDB Enterprise 4.0: cold storage, QWP, and hot failover

QuestDB Enterprise 4.0 introduces automated cold storage, a new QuestDB Wire Protocol (QWP), and improved high availability for the open-source time-series database. Cold storage uses configurable policies to move aging partitions to S3, GCS, Azure Blob, or shared NFS while retaining SQL query access, with stored files written as standard Parquet for interoperability with lakehouse tools; tables can also now be created directly in Parquet format locally. QWP is a bidirectional binary WebSocket protocol that combines ingestion and querying in one client, with reported ingestion rates up to 19 million rows per second and Apache Arrow decoding on reads, while existing ILP and PostgreSQL wire protocol integrations remain supported. High-availability improvements include client-side buffering and automatic reconnection, hot promotion of replicas without restarts, and configurable multi-node failover. The release also adds replicated-cluster support for beta live views, notebook-based Web Console features with charting and MCP agent integration, a light theme, Parquet schema evolution, query memory controls, ACL performance fixes, and assorted upgrade considerations.
