Why we moved from Slack to Discord?
Blog post from Qovery
Slack, originally created by Stewart Butterfield as a communication tool for companies, has faced criticisms for its limitations, particularly its message history cap and lack of hierarchical organization, which can be costly and cumbersome for large communities. On the other hand, Discord, initially designed for online gamers, has emerged as a viable alternative for team communication, offering unlimited messaging, superior voice and video capabilities, and a flexible role-based hierarchy system without the per-user fees. Despite lacking some integrations and threaded messaging features found in Slack, Discord's pricing model and adaptability make it an attractive option for companies like Qovery, particularly in remote work environments. While Discord is not without its drawbacks, its potential as a business communication tool is being positively received, especially in pandemic times, as users hope for further developments to better suit professional needs.
