Cloud Governance Tools for GCP and Azure: Which Ones Actually Audit and Fix Misconfigurations Without a Platform Team?
Blog post from Qovery
Cloud governance across GCP and Azure is complicated by different IAM models, resource hierarchies, benchmarks, and finding formats, while the main operational constraint for small teams is often triaging large volumes of alerts rather than purchasing licenses. Microsoft Defender for Cloud and Google Security Command Center provide the lowest-effort continuous posture monitoring in their respective clouds, although their cross-cloud coverage is limited and Security Command Center’s Azure Enterprise support is scheduled to end in May 2027. Open-source tools such as Prowler, Checkov, Trivy, and OPA/Gatekeeper can assess configurations or prevent unsafe infrastructure changes, but generally do not repair live resources; commercial CNAPP platforms including Wiz, Aqua Security, Prisma Cloud, and CrowdStrike offer more extensive workflow automation and remediation at enterprise pricing. The recommended baseline for teams without dedicated platform engineers combines each cloud’s native posture tool, Prowler or Checkov in CI to block high-severity issues before deployment, and a designated person to review critical findings weekly. Because automatic remediation can disrupt intentional production changes, prevention through standardized infrastructure templates, policy controls, and IaC scanning is presented as safer and more durable than fixing drift after deployment. Qovery is positioned not as a CSPM or compliance tool, but as an internal developer platform that can reduce future misconfigurations by provisioning environments consistently from reviewed templates.
