Pydantic AI Harness has added You.com’s YouSearch and YouResearch capabilities, giving agents access to real-time web search, page-content retrieval, synthesized answers, multi-step research, and finance-focused research through five APIs. The integration lets developers control result counts, content extraction, text limits, freshness, domains, research effort, structured Pydantic outputs, citations, retries, and observability through Logfire. A comparison using the current silver price showed that a lean search agent using excerpts from three results could return a price and date for roughly $0.01 in about 5.5 seconds, while a thorough agent using full-page content, trusted domains, and deep research produced the same fields with citations at roughly $0.13, 26.3 seconds, and a median of 8.2 times more input tokens. The post emphasizes that YouSearch is suited to quick surveys and retrieval, while YouResearch is intended for questions requiring synthesis across multiple sources, with typed schemas helping validate outputs and source metadata allowing applications to render reliable citations. It also notes that domain filters are not security boundaries, deep research can require multi-minute timeouts, and the still-evolving 0.x Harness API may change, while recommending Logfire tracing and evaluations to monitor costs, tool calls, sources, and agent behavior.
