Pydantic Validation: Next Steps
Blog post from Pydantic
Pydantic is preparing version 3 after substantial improvements to V2, which has received fourteen minor releases since June 2023 and now ranks among PyPI’s 20 most downloaded packages with more than 800 million monthly downloads. The project aims to make the V3 transition less disruptive than V1-to-V2 by limiting breaking changes to correctness fixes or changes that allow users to restore prior behavior, while removing V1 deprecations and the pydantic.v1 namespace without a comparable API overhaul. Although no release date has been set, V3 is targeted to approach its final state by year-end. Pydantic V1.10.27 is the final V1 release and includes security fixes also available through V2.14.2’s pydantic.v1 namespace, while V2 will continue receiving major bug and security fixes after V3 launches until most users have migrated. Pydantic remains open source and also offers enterprise support for organizations needing migration assistance, vulnerability coordination, service-level agreements, or support for older production deployments.
