DisAtBot – How I Built a Chatbot With Telegram And Python

Rodolfo developed the Disaster Attention Bot (DisAtBot) using Python and Telegram as part of Pybites Code Challenge 43, inspired by the need for efficient disaster reporting following the earthquakes in Mexico since 2017. DisAtBot streamlines the process of reporting incidents during natural disasters by utilizing messaging platforms, though it currently supports only Telegram with plans for expansion. The bot employs a user-friendly interface featuring menu buttons to facilitate quick interaction, and a finite state machine to manage the conversation flow. It automates the opening of tickets for incidents which are stored in a database for relevant authorities to validate and respond. Rodolfo envisions further development, such as adding geolocation features and expanding the bot to other platforms like Facebook Messenger and Twitter, and invites collaboration from others to enhance its functionality and real-world application.
