Pulumi has announced an enhancement to its preview feature, aimed at improving the accuracy of resource change predictions during deployments. Previously, Pulumi would err on the side of caution, suggesting that more resources might be affected by changes than was actually the case, due to its inability to precisely determine which outputs would change. With the update available in Pulumi v2.12.0, resource providers can now offer more specific information about potential changes, resulting in more accurate previews. This improvement is demonstrated in a sample application deploying a Google GKE cluster where alterations to cluster labels initially suggested extensive resource replacements, but only the cluster itself was ultimately affected. This new feature can be disabled by setting the environment variable PULUMI_DISABLE_PROVIDER_PREVIEW to maintain the former conservative behavior.
