Moondream is joining Prime Intellect
Blog post from Prime Intellect
Prime Intellect has acquired Moondream, bringing founders Vik Korrapati and Jay Allen onto its team to lead inference development and advance multimodal capabilities in vision and computer use. Moondream is known for its open-weight vision-language models and Photon, an inference engine that compiles models into optimized single-GPU programs using custom kernels. The companies argue that specialized small models paired with purpose-built infrastructure can outperform broader models for targeted tasks, citing Moondream 3.1’s reported strengths in object detection, aerial imagery, charts, and crowded scenes, alongside high throughput and lower operating costs. Prime is integrating Photon and Moondream’s kernel technology into its training and inference stack, with Moondream 3.1 already available through Prime Inference and other models, including Clef and Clef Flash, also offered through its services. Moondream Cloud customers will receive Prime platform credits, while Moondream will continue as the brand for small, efficient multimodal models.
