Postmark recently experienced a series of outages and delays on its front-end activity feed, causing confusion for customers, despite not affecting its API or message delivery. The issue was triggered by a move of its Cloudant servers to a new cabinet, which disrupted the cluster's operations and led to problems with the `couchdb-river` plugin used to send user message data to ElasticSearch. Duplicate statuses showing up in activity were another issue that manifested at the same time, caused by the application trying to update message status before it was written to disk on the Cloudant server. To rectify these issues, Postmark has been bonding its network interfaces and updating its application code to guarantee documents are written to Cloudant before updating them. The company expects to have resolved the problems permanently within 24 hours and offers sincerest apologies to its users for the inconvenience caused.
